In an amusing twist during a routine traffic stop, a driver in California attempted to dodge a ticket by presenting a rather unconventional form of identification: a Monopoly “Get Out of Jail Free” card, according to local police reports.

The Fullerton Police Department shared the humorous encounter on social media, recounting how the driver handed over the iconic game card in what was described as a last-ditch effort to avoid a citation. Despite the lighthearted moment, the officer on duty had to inform the motorist that such creativity, while entertaining, did not hold up in a court of law.

After sharing a laugh with the driver, the officer advised him to perhaps save the card for a more fitting occasion, as it wouldn’t suffice in this situation. The whimsical gesture left both parties in good spirits, with the driver departing the scene with “a smile – and a real citation,” as the police department noted.
