Tuesday marks a milestone in air travel as the Federal Aviation Administration reports it as the busiest travel day in the past 15 years. Passengers at Jacksonville International Airport are sharing their reasons for braving the crowds, with many feeling their journeys are meaningful and rewarding.

In Jacksonville, Florida, the bustling atmosphere at the airport reflects a national trend. Travelers are eager to reconnect with loved ones, and for some, like Will Culi, the emotional payoff makes the hectic travel worthwhile. Culi, who is flying to Houston, Texas, is particularly excited about reuniting with family members he hasn’t seen in years.

As he anticipates his arrival, Culi envisions a heartwarming reunion. “Oh, it’s going to be theatrical,” he muses. “I’m going to walk in, lights shining as I come in. It’s going to be a really great time,” he adds, painting a vivid picture of the joyful scene awaiting him.

He’s traveling from Jacksonville International Airport to Houston, Texas, already imagining the moment he sees his family.

“Oh, it’s going to be theatrical. I’m going to walk in, lights shining as I come in. It’s going to be a really great time,” said Culi.

Lynn Cearsey is on her way to Colorado to see her brother. She said she’s the only one in her family who knows how to make the special stuffing that her mom used to make. “My brother is so looking forward to it that he can’t wait because no one else knows how to make it.”

Dale and Jinny Baker said they’re waiting for their son, Isaac, who lives in Nebraska, to fly into Jacksonville.

Isaac said that with the increase in travelers and handling three connecting flights, he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it.

“I almost missed my connecting flight, actually; I made it about two minutes before they closed the gate. The train was just packed full of people. Every flight was booked,” detailed Isaac.

Dale said he hasn’t seen his son in about six months.

He said the only way they talk is over the landline.

“I don’t have a computer. I can’t Skype. I can’t see him over the cellphone or anything. I get to see him in 3D today.”

After waiting, Dale, Jinny, and Isaac reunited at the gate, excited about spending Thanksgiving together.
