TAMPA, Fla. — Air Force officials have confirmed that a U.S. Marine was hit and killed in a car collision Wednesday at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. Cpl. Jack Cody was reportedly running along a road on the base when the crash happened. The driver stopped to call for help.

First aid was provided at the scene before Cody was taken to Tampa General Hospital. Officials say he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Cpl. Cody was part of the 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion of the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center. The battalion’s mission is to conduct operations in order to support the ground combat element with maneuvers, fire and force protection, as well as command and control.

He had received multiple awards and decorations, including a Navy Achievement Medal, SMCR Medal, GWOT-Service and National Defense Service Medal.

He will be missed by every Marine at 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion.”

Air Force law enforcement is continuing to investigate the crash.
