8-month-old child placed in road, killed by car in Jacksonville

The incident occurred around 10:39 a.m. Saturday. Justin Golden, 20, was taken into custody Saturday evening.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An eight-month-old child is dead after being placed in a road and run over by a vehicle on the Westside Saturday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO arrested 20-year-old Justin Golden on vehicular homicide – failing to render aid and aggravated manslaughter of a child charges, the agency announced Saturday evening.

At 10:39 a.m. officers responded to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of McDuff and Lenox avenues.

According to JSO, Golden and woman passenger began an altercation in a vehicle, which included an eight-month-old child as a passenger. The vehicle stopped at the intersection, police said, and he opened the door and placed the child on the ground. 

He began to leave the area and the vehicle struck the child, police said.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and the child was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Golden was admitted to Duval County Jail at 6:22 p.m.
