Just hours before its scheduled Sunday broadcast, there was an unexpected change in programming.

NEW YORK — The program “60 Minutes” made a last-minute decision to delay airing a special segment on El Salvador’s high-security prison, initially set for Sunday evening.

A statement posted on the show’s social media pages announced, “Editor’s note: Tonight’s broadcast lineup for 60 Minutes has been revised. Our segment ‘Inside CECOT’ is now slated for a future airing.”

The segment was to focus on the Terrorism Confinement Center, known as “CECOT.” A preview clip, which has since been removed, featured footage of detainees disembarking from airplanes onto an airport tarmac under the watchful eyes of riot gear-clad officers. With wrists and ankles bound, the men were seen struggling to walk as officers directed them to bend forward at the waist.

The footage also depicted a heavily guarded convoy of buses, escorted by police and military vehicles, transporting the men to the prison.

“It began as soon as the planes landed. The deportees thought they were headed from the U.S. back to Venezuela. But instead, they were shackled, paraded in front of cameras and delivered to CECOT, the notorious maximum security prison in El Salvador,” the now deleted teaser said over the video. “They told 60 Minutes they endured four months of hell.”

Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi reported the story.

It’s unclear why the broadcast was pulled or when it will air in the future.
