Investigators said the teen threatened the victim multiple times from a blocked number.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A 16-year-old was arrested Saturday after threatening a shooting at Orange Park High School on the first day of school, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen, who First Coast News is not identifying due to their age, is accused of calling and threatening to shoot a student at the high school. Deputies said the suspect called the victim multiple times from a blocked number Wednesday. Deputies said they were notified of the incident Thursday.

Investigators said the suspect appeared to know the victim and indicated personal information about the victim, which prompted them to notify their family about the threats. The suspect continued to make threats even after the victim’s mother was given the phone, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office worked with the Clay County School Board to identify the suspect, who was later identified as a 16-year-old boy.

Sunday, the suspect was interviewed by investigators and arrested on charges of aggravated stalking and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, both felonies. The sheriff’s office said there was no indication that the suspect had access to a gun and believed the incident was isolated.

The suspect was taken to the juvenile detention center in Jacksonville.

“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay County School Board are committed to the safety of all students and threats of violence will not be tolerated,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Our schools are a place for growing and learning without fear of harm.”

Anyone with information about any threats is encouraged to call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office using 911 or the non-emergency line at (904)264-6512 or submit a tip using the county’s SaferWatch app.
