ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Flashing blue lights filled the Orange Park Mall on Saturday night as Clay County Sheriff’s deputies worked to get a group of hundreds of teenagers under control.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office posted Saturday morning they heard about a reunion happening at the mall that they weren’t invited to, and that they were prepared to party crash.
And that’s exactly what they did — when a First Coast News crew arrived around the time the mall closed at 8 p.m., there were dozens of police cars outside and filling the parking lot across the street, with deputies surrounding groups of teenagers.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said they responded to a group of teens causing “disturbances” at the mall.
She said deputies directed traffic and tried to get all of the kids across the street. Then, they made a post asking parents to come pick them up.
“I just pulled in to take a video because I couldn’t believe all the police activity,” said Louise Veiga, who lives near the mall. “I have a grandson that’s not allowed to come in this area because of different things his mom has heard.”
