“My life has been fulfilling,” Delema Eldridge reflected, contemplating her century-long journey. “Even if given the chance, I wouldn’t alter a thing.”
FORT SMITH, Ark — On November 2, family and friends gathered to celebrate a remarkable milestone: Delema Eldridge’s 100th birthday!
The occasion was steeped in memories of a life well-lived, as Eldridge reminisced about raising her family, exploring distant lands, and the kindness she shared with others.
“My life has been fulfilling,” she reflected. “Even if given the chance, I wouldn’t alter a thing.”
Eldridge recounted her years devoted to motherhood. After her first two children reached the ages of 18 and 20, life surprised her with the news of a new addition—a baby girl.
“And I thought, ‘Lord, why did you do this to me?’ And now I say, ‘I know you sent her to me to take care of, and you sent her to me to take care of me when I get old.’ And she has. They all do,” Delema said.
Her children visit her several times a week.
During her life, she’s also “traveled both sides of the world.”
Today, Delema still bakes and exercises. She even needs to remind herself of her age.
“I have to remember and remind myself, because sitting here, I could be 50, and when I get up and start up and down the halls and up and down steps, I’m 100,” she said.
And the key to her longevity?
“Treat other people like you want to be treated, and you will get through this life well.”
