A blaze erupted on Sunday night, injuring a Chicago firefighter and another individual as it tore through a church and extended to an adjacent building on the West Side, according to CFD officials who spoke with ABC7.
The incident took place at the intersection of North Lotus Avenue and West Huron Street in the Austin neighborhood, as reported by authorities.
Late into Sunday night, numerous firefighters remained on site, successfully containing the fire.

The ferocity of the flames compelled firefighters to adopt a defensive strategy, tackling the fire from the building’s exterior.
During the operation, a firefighter fell through the floor of one of the structures but managed to escape and seek assistance. He was transported to Stroger Hospital and is anticipated to recover, as confirmed by CFD officials.
Another civilian was also treated for minor injuries that were unrelated to the fire.
Chicago fire officials said more firefighters were called to the scene due to the cold weather. At one point, one of the hydrants froze. That was just one of many challenges these firefighter faced in battling the flames
CFD has not yet released a cause for the fire. At least two buildings are now a complete loss.
