CHICAGO (WLS) — A report that a 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Lakeview Sunday night has been determined to be unfounded, Chicago police said.

Police had initially said they were investigating after a 26-year-old-woman said she was sitting in an alley in the 3800-block of North Wilton Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. when two men and two women approached her.

The victim told police she was attacked physically and was sexually assaulted by the two men before all four suspects fled the scene in a car.

The incident has other young women on high alert.

“Yeah, I’m just flabbergasted,” Salgado said. “This sort of hits close to home.”

Investigators recovered clothing from the roof of a garage.

“it’s a good reminder, and not just for young women, young men, non-binary, trans youth, everyone needs to be careful,” Beth Compton, who lives in the area, said.

Compton, who has lived in this area for nearly 20 years, said she takes extra precautions to protect herself.

“Try not to be alone late at night and don’t walk around with headphones in where you can’t hear what’s going on around you. And make sure, if your friends are impaired, that you take care of them,” Compton said.
