A tense evening unfolded in Chicago’s South Side on Friday when police officers were involved in a dramatic confrontation with a suspect accused of shooting a woman and subsequently opening fire on law enforcement. The incident left the suspect seriously wounded, according to authorities.
The chain of events began shortly after 7:45 p.m. when police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, specifically in the 7900-block of South Ingleside Avenue. Officers were informed of a man armed with both a gun and a knife, posing a potential threat.

Upon arrival, the situation escalated as the suspect attempted to escape, firing shots in the direction of the responding officers. In the face of this immediate danger, two officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
After the exchange of gunfire, police officers quickly administered first aid to the injured suspect at the scene. He was then transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. As of the latest updates, the suspect is in serious condition and remains under police custody.

Investigators found a gun on the scene, and both officers involved were transported to a local hospital for observation.
Before officers responded to the scene, police say, the suspect shot a 23-year-old woman at a home in the same block. The victim, who suffered two gunshot wounds to the arm, was transported to the same hospital, where she is listed in good condition.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability and CPD’s Investigative Response Team are investigating.
The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
