At the break of dawn, around 6:30 a.m., Gold Star families gathered alongside local community members, preparing to commence the march at 8 a.m. The route stretched along Michigan Avenue, from Superior Street to Wacker Drive, drawing participants and spectators alike to pay their respects.
This year’s march held particular significance, occurring just a week after the tragic loss of CPD Officer John Bartholomew, who was killed in the line of duty, and following an incident where his partner sustained injuries. Such recent events have cast a somber tone over this year’s proceedings, reminding attendees of the ongoing risks faced by those in law enforcement.
