Chicago student journalists create map of ICE sightings

CHICAGO () The presence of federal immigration agents has been increasingly noticeable across Chicago, prompting local communities to adopt whistle-blowing strategies to alert residents. This response comes amid an extensive operation that has resulted in over 2,700 arrests since early September.

In the vibrant Rogers Park neighborhood, located on the North Side, a surge in agent sightings has been reported. To address this, editors at Loyola University’s student newspaper created an interactive map to document these sightings.

The Loyola Phoenix, which recently experienced a spike in web traffic following the passing of Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the university’s cherished 106-year-old basketball chaplain, has seen further engagement due to its real-time updates of confirmed agent locations.
