Chicago Suburb Under Shelter-in-Place Directive Amid Ongoing Police Pursuit Following Reported Shooting

On Thursday, authorities in a suburb of Chicago implemented a shelter-in-place directive as they conducted a manhunt following a shooting incident in Lansing, Illinois.

According to FOX 32 Chicago, Lansing police urged residents near the 2700 block of 170th Street to remain indoors while they searched for a suspect who had fled the scene.

The suspect was described by authorities as a Black male, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing a black do-rag, a black hoodie, and a white surgical mask, and was last observed moving southward from 170th Street.

Information from dispatch audio, analyzed by News Media, revealed that authorities were responding to reports of an active shooter situation at a chemical plant located across the street from the Lansing Police Department on 170th Street.

In the audio, a man can be heard saying authorities had “a helicopter up” and were “trying to find a K9.” The man also said, “The offender shot every foreign subject in the business.”

Lansing police have not publicly confirmed details contained in the dispatch audio, including the nature of the incident or whether anyone was injured.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear. News Media has reached out to the Lansing Police Department and Nippon Paint for additional information.
