CHICAGO (WLS) — IDOT is promising major relief this week to drivers on the Kennedy Expressway.

All Kennedy Expressway lanes north of Addison Street are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday.

Starting at 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, the outbound Kennedy will be gradually reduced to one lane from south of Kimball Avenue to the Edens junction with intermittent ramp closures beginning at 9 p.m. At 1 a.m., the express lanes will close.

By 5 a.m. Friday construction barricades will be removed and all lanes fully reopened from Addison Street to Pulaski Road.

IDOT said the reversible express lanes will remain open in the outbound direction. The reversible mid-gate entrance and exits will remain closed.

The following ramps also will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29:
-Outbound Kennedy to Kimball Avenue.
-Addison Street to outbound Kennedy.
-Outbound Kennedy to Pulaski Road/Irving Park Road (Illinois 19).

To accommodate ongoing repairs, the following ramps will close Tuesday, Aug. 26:
– OB Kennedy to Diversey Avenue
– Fullerton Avenue slip ramp to Western Avenue

IDOT said the outbound Kennedy project is on track to be completed by Thanksgiving, with all lanes and ramps reopening and the express lanes resuming normal operations.
