CHICAGO (WLS) — Three years after 27-year-old Adam Moreno was fatally shot in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood, his mother and community supporters returned to the site Saturday to demand answers in the still-unsolved case.
A vigil took place near 44th Street and Kedzie Avenue, where Moreno was killed in September 2023. Supporters put up fliers at the location as his mother, Juanita Arias, renewed her appeal for information that could identify her son’s killer.
“It’s just a lot of moms, and we’re all waiting,” Arias said. “Every day you wake up and wait for an answer. But there are no answers.”
The anniversary also forced Arias to relive the devastating day her son died.
“Three years ago, I was in the hospital when they pronounced my son at 3:51,” she recalled.
According to Arias, Moreno was crossing the street when the gunfire began.
“My son was killed crossing the street. They had him like a deer in headlights, dodging bullets. They shot at my son nine times,” she said.

“I don’t understand. It just makes me numb,” Arias added.
At Saturday’s gathering, other mothers who had lost children offered Arias support. She said her fight for justice is not only about Moreno, but also about families mourning loved ones killed by gun violence.
“As a mother, I’m going to fight with everything I have because you’re not going to get away with it. No,” Arias said.
She encouraged other grieving parents to keep speaking out and seeking accountability for their children.
“This is your child. You carried him and gave him life. You are his protector. He can’t speak for himself. They can’t speak for themselves. You have to be their voice,” Arias said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in Moreno’s killing.
