CHICAGO (WLS) — The beloved Chicago Thanksgiving Parade is set to make a festive return to the city, marching proudly through the Loop once again this year.

The lively procession will kick off at 8:45 a.m. along the iconic State Street, starting at Ida B. Wells Drive and concluding at Randolph Street.

Attracting hundreds of thousands of eager spectators, the parade will draw both locals and visitors to downtown Chicago to celebrate and join in the Thanksgiving festivities.

This vibrant event will showcase a rich tapestry of entertainment, including marching bands, celebrity appearances, cultural performances, dancers, and musicians, all embodying the spirited essence of Chicago.

This year, the parade is honored to have the esteemed award-winning baker and sugar artist, Maurice “Chef Blaque” Shelton, as the grand marshal, adding a sweet touch to the celebration.

Tracing its roots to 1934, the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade has grown to become one of the country’s most cherished holiday celebrations, showcasing performers and traditions from across the city, nation and world.

Chicago police will be monitoring events throughout the city Thursday.

Mayor Brandon Johnson says he wants families to get out and enjoy the holidays, despite recent incidents in the Loop.

“We’re not going to allow some irresponsible individuals to dictate and determine how we throw down as a city,” Mayor Johnson said. “It’s the holiday season. I want people to get out and spend some time with their families.”
