Captured by a doorbell camera, Lavonte Harvey approached a home in the Austin neighborhood, announcing, “This is for you, grandma,” before serenading the homeowner with a song.
Moved by Harvey’s gesture, the grandmother shared the video with her granddaughter, Whitney Cumbo, who then posted it on social media.
The grandmother expressed that the song brought her much-needed joy following the recent loss of her husband, prompting her to share the touching video.
“I never imagined it would go viral,” Harvey admitted, noting that singing is a regular part of his mail delivery routine.
“For me, singing isn’t just music,” he said. “It’s about ministry, its about spreading hope and joy.”
Cumbo said his singing warms her grandmother’s heart daily.
She shared the video on her Instagram @bossywhit, in which she teaches financial literacy.
Cumbo helped create a GoFundMe for Harvey.
Now, his two-and-a-half-hour commute has been shortened to 30 minutes, after internet strangers donated enough money for him to purchase a new truck.
He also started a new clothing company in hopes to continue to spread more joy.
