KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s been nearly three weeks since the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally.

Since then the Kansas City community has raised over $1 million for the KC Strong Fund to support victims and other causes.

Now even more past and present Chiefs players are helping to raise money for the fund.

Chop It Up Travel Club and Lot J Tailgaters teamed up to support the KC Strong project. Throughout the month, they’re setting up special events, giving fans the chance to meet and get autographs from Chiefs players and alumni.

On Saturday afternoon, Chiefs Hall of Famer Neil Smith was the first to meet with fans.

Then on Sunday, Chiefs tackle Mike Pennel greeted Chiefs Kingdom at Il Lazzarone Pizza in the River Market.

He described how it felt to see fans show up and support the victims of the shooting.

“It feels good. I mean, you know, you almost become accustomed to it being in Chiefs Kingdom because we do have the best fans in the world. I’m not just saying that. I’ve been to other places where the love’s not the same,” Pennel said.

The two groups plan to announce more events throughout the month. All of the profits will be donated to the KC Strong Fund and the KCPD Care Team.
