Christine Pelosi has decided not to pursue her mother’s vacant congressional seat, putting an end to speculation about a potential continuation of the Pelosi legacy in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The 59-year-old Pelosi announced on Monday her intention to run for the California State Senate instead, setting the stage for a highly competitive Democratic primary for the congressional seat in 2026.
“Whether in courtrooms, on campaigns, or within the corridors of power, I’ve always strived to build Power For The People. That is why I’m announcing my candidacy for the California Senate,” Christine stated in her announcement on Monday.
Just last week, her mother, the 85-year-old former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, disclosed that she would not seek a 20th term in the House, leaving her San Francisco-based seat open to a potentially crowded Democratic primary.
Christine Pelosi had been among those considered as a possible successor to her mother, but she remained vague about her political intentions until her recent announcement.
