(WGHP) – Former Disney Channel actress Christy Carlson Romano says she was shot in the face during a birthday event for her husband on Friday.

Romano, best known for starring in “Even Stevens” and voicing the title character of “Kim Possible,” and most recently for being a contestant on “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” took to Instagram on Saturday to explain what happened.

“It was not fun,” Romano, 40, said in a video message, showing the injuries to her face.

In the caption, Romano said she had taken her husband to shoot clay pigeons as a gift for his birthday. But there was “another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”

Romano’s husband took her to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas, where doctors worked to clean out the wounds, she said.

“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she wrote. “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”

In the video, Romano thanked the first responders and doctors who treated her. She also urged her fans to be thankful for their health.

“I got to say, I got shot in the face, and lived to tell the tale,” said Romano, letting out a deep sigh. “Be grateful for every day.”
