On Thursday night, gunfire erupted at a California Coast Guard base when security forces shot at a U-Haul truck approaching the entrance. The driver failed to comply with repeated commands to halt, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.
The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. when Coast Guard security on Coast Guard Island observed the truck moving erratically and attempting to reverse into Coast Guard Base Alameda, officials reported.

Security officers responded by firing at the U-Haul, which continued to disregard orders and made a move to reverse toward the base entrance, as detailed by the Coast Guard. (Screenshot/KTVU footage)
The Coast Guard noted that officers stationed at the gate fired several live rounds after the driver ignored repeated verbal warnings and reversed toward the entrance, creating a dangerous situation.
“When the vehicle’s actions presented an immediate threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers responded with live fire,” the agency stated.
The Coast Guard confirmed no personnel were injured during the incident.
