In the somber annals of unsolved crimes, the case of Julius Parrish stands as a haunting reminder of violence’s indiscriminate reach. Parrish, a Jacksonville resident, tragically lost his life in a drive-by shooting on the night of June 30, 2012. As the years have slipped by, his death remains an open wound in the community, with First Coast Crime Stoppers continuing to seek justice for the 48-year-old.

During a recent news conference, First Coast Crime Stoppers once again brought Parrish’s case into the spotlight, urging the public to come forward with any information that might lead to a resolution. His wife, Deborah, stood before the cameras, her voice a mix of determination and heartache, as she earnestly appealed to the community for assistance. “It’s like every door that should have opened…for some reason it didn’t,” Deborah expressed, reflecting the frustration and pain that have accompanied the years of waiting for answers.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on that fateful June evening. Julius was outside his residence on Bunche Drive, located near Jacksonville’s Magnolia Gardens neighborhood, talking with his godson. In a sudden and brutal moment, shots rang out from a passing vehicle, claiming Julius’s life. Despite the passage of time, investigators are still grappling with the puzzle of why Julius was targeted, as the motive remains as elusive as ever.

“It’s like every door that should have opened…for some reason it didn’t,” Deborah said.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Investigators said Julius was standing outside of his home of Bunche Dr. near Jacksonville’s Magnolia Gardens neighborhood with his godson. Someone drove by and opened fire, but to this day investigators still do not know why Julius was targeted.

Detective Travis Oliver with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit said there was not a lot of evidence gleaned from the crime scene at the time and they did not receive a lot of help from people in the community. In order to solve this case, Oliver said someone in the community is going to need to speak up.

“This case is going to definitely rely on the public coming forward and assisting us with information they have, and my question to the public or the people that know this is, I would ask you to come forward and give the information as if Mr. Parrish was your loved one,” Oliver explained.

First Coast Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 in cash for any tips that lead to an arrest. Executive Director Chase Robinson shared pictures and maps of the neighborhood during the news conference in hopes of sparking someone’s memory from that night.

“If you used to live in one of these homes, frequent the area, that you might remember something that maybe the shape of the house, the unique shape of a driveway, even the presence of a tree you might remember, and spark some images in your mind,” Robinson said.

Thirteen years later and Deborah is keeping her husband’s memory alive. She is calling on people do the right thing and help her find closure.

“He’s not dead. He’s just as bright as day everywhere I see him, he is not dead. Because they didn’t kill his spirit at all,” Deborah said.

If anyone has any information about Julius’ murder, call 866-845-TIPS or visit First Coast Crime Stoppers’ website. It is completely anonymous; Crime Stoppers does not take names or contact information.
