Controversial Mayor Attempts Political Revival with Party Change

Tiffany Heynard, a politician who faced a tumultuous exit from her mayoral role last year, has re-emerged on the political scene as a member of the Republican Party.

Once dubbed as America’s “worst mayor,” Heynard has left Illinois behind to pursue a political career in Georgia. She is now the sole Republican contender for a seat in South Fulton County’s District 5, as verified by election records.

In her bid for the seat, Heynard faces competition from four Democratic candidates: Sojourner M. Grimmett, Deijia Felicity Swindell, J. Jazz Thomas-Jones, and Helen Zenobia Willis.

At 42, Heynard gained national attention in 2024 when her administration came under FBI scrutiny due to a suspected corruption probe.

Federal investigations focused on city officials’ travel expenses and possible financial mismanagement, but no charges were ever filed against her.

Amid her political rebranding, Heynard, who smiled from ear-to-ear when she met former President Joe Biden in 2024, has used her online platforms to make her stance clear.

In December 2025, she shared an image of Nicki Minaj, stating she stands behind her after the rapper declared herself a Donald Trump supporter.

‘Support Nicki Minaj. True support doesn’t disappear when things get uncomfortable. She’s incredibly talented and continues to make an impact through her work,’ Heynard wrote.

‘Team Supermayor Tiffany Henyard stands with you, Nicki. It takes bravery to stand up for what you believe in, and courage like that deserves recognition and respect.’

Over the years, Heynard has developed a nationally terrible reputation for her confrontational antics, failure to do her job, alleged corruption, and apparent disdain for her constituents, whom she has berated publicly and once with the assistance of a DJ.

In February 2025, she lost her re-election battle by a landslide just after she took part in a chaotic brawl at a council meeting.

Despite declaring before results came in that she had ‘no competition’ and would win in a ‘landslide,’ Village Trustee Jason House blew out Henyard during the Democratic primary, winning 87.9 per cent of the votes.

Henyard mustered up only 536 Democrats willing to re-elect her, just over 12 per cent.

House did all he could to rub it in, dancing to the podium to declare victory to the tune of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us,’ according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

When asked her thoughts, she could only muster that ‘the people have spoken’ and ‘God must have a different plan.’

When questioned by WGN about what she would do with her tainted career next, Heynard ominously said: ‘Stay tuned.’

House – a veteran of the village chamber of commerce as well as a trustee – declared the end of a corrupt era in the village of just 21,000-plus residents.

‘We faced four years of intimidation, four years of failure, and tonight is the new day for the village of Dolton,’ House said.

‘Today marks the end to a dark time for Dolton. If you want to pass the buck, pass that seat with it.’

Lawrence Gardner, a former business owner who claimed Henyard targeted his trucking company until it closed, was even more celebratory.

‘The Wicked Witch of the West is dead! It’s over. Now we have to go another eight weeks to bury her,’ he told the New York Post at the time.

‘If I can do a backwards hand flip right now – and I’m 67-years-old next month – I would definitely do it,’ the fellow anti-Henyard voter added.

After losing her re-election, Heynard was ordered to pay $10,000 in regard to a case where her landlord accused her and her former boyfriend, Kamal Woods, of failing to pay rent for a home she lived in while she was in office.

She was also ordered to appear in court last year after she failed to turn over public records from her time in office.

Heynard also previously served as supervisor of Thornton Township, but she was again defeated during her re-election bid by Illinois state Senator Napoleon Harris.

The Daily Mail contacted Heynard for comment.
