A Tennessee woman endured a terrifying ordeal in her apartment building, leading to the arrest of a convicted sex offender on Tuesday. Authorities have charged Joequarius Williams, aged 29, with attempted murder and robbery following the incident.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reports that Williams allegedly targeted a 25-year-old woman as she returned home from a concert at Bridgestone Arena on November 5. The woman, who remains unnamed, recounted to police how she noticed someone trailing her from afar. Her unease escalated when the man entered her building and joined her in the elevator.

Within the confines of the elevator, the situation took a violent turn. Williams is accused of grabbing the woman by the neck, reportedly threatening her life in the process.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has released details indicating that Williams, known for his prior offenses, allegedly perpetrated this attack on the woman in the elevator of her apartment building. His apprehension marks a significant development in the case, as authorities continue to investigate the incident further.

When the elevator door opened, she managed to break free and made a run for it, police said. Williams allegedly took her keys and cell phone, which investigators recovered outside the building.

Williams was nabbed after authorities analyzed fingerprints left on the items.

Williams was previously convicted of aggravated assault and attempted forcible rape of a 27-year-old woman from an August 2019 incident at a Glastonbury Road apartment complex, authorities said.

He was sentenced to probation and placed on Tennessee’s sex offender registry. Probation violation warrants are expected to be filed by the state, police said.

Williams remains jailed on a $10.1 million bond.
