MOORESVILLE, Ind. – An 18-year-old Mooresville High School student who had a collage of mass shooters in the student’s bedroom was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly planning a school shooting on Valentine’s Day.

According to court documents recently filed in Morgan County by the Mooresville Metropolitan  Police Department, Trinity Shockley was arrested on the following charges:

  • One count of conspiracy to commit murder, a Level 1 felony
  • One count of intimidation: threat to commit terrorism, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of conspiracy to commit intimidation: threat to commit terrorism, a Level 5 felony

On Tuesday evening, law enforcement received a tip about a planned school shooting at Mooresville High School. A person of interest was later identified as Shockley, a news release from the department said.

The release said that detectives with the department, along with officials from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Mooresville School Police, executed search warrants at Shockley’s home and took Shockley into custody.

Official charges were filed against Shockley on Thursday and Shockley is currently being held in the Morgan County Jail without bond.

According to previous reports, Shockley was hit by a suspected drunk driver in Mooresville while crossing the street to get to the bus. At the time, Mooresville Schools raised money for Shockley’s recovery.

What do the court documents say?

On Tuesday, the Sandy Hook Tip Line through the Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted officials with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department in regards to a potential threat to Mooresville High School.

The tip stated that a person, later identified as Shockley, was planning a shooting and had access to an AR-15 rifle and had ordered a bulletproof vest. The tip stated that Shockley reportedly admired Nikolas Cruz, the man who conducted the shooting at Parkland High School in Florida which occurred on Valentine’s Day in 2018.

After an investigation, authorities found archives of Shockley’s Discord and Snapchat accounts which included conversations about planning a school shooting. On Discord, Shockley’s username was reportedly “Crazy Nikolaz.”

In one message on Snapchat, Shockley who identified in the messages as a 12th grade transgender person named Jamie said in January that the shooting would be “Parkland part two” and that Shockley had been planning this for a year.

In another conversation from Feb. 7, Shockley reportedly planned to shoot someone who Shockley had a crush on, but did not plan to commit suicide. Shockley did express having suicidal thoughts at other points in life due to bullying and other mental health issues.

The documents said that Shockley spoke with a counselor on Tuesday afternoon at Mooresville High School and reportedly disclosed being sexually attracted to Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland school shooter. Shockley reportedly confessed to writing to Cruz multiple times while he had been in prison and claimed to possess a heart locket necklace with Cruz’s photo inside.

On Wednesday, law enforcement conducted a search of the apartment where Shockley lived. Shockley’s father was in the apartment during Wednesday’s search. According to previous reports, Shockley’s father is a 19-year military veteran.

During the search, law enforcement collected photos on a wall of mass shooters like Cruz, as well as Dylann Roof, the man who killed multiple people in a church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The documents said that Shockley also had a photo album of mass shooters, as well as buttons with their faces on it.

The documents said that other items were seized from the Shockley’s home, including:

  • A few AR-15 magazines and a box of 50 .40 caliber rounds from Shockley’s father’s  room
  • A Soft armor vest

Law enforcement reportedly seized a number of notebooks from Shockley’s room. The notebooks allegedly included several passages including one where Shockley identified as “Dex… a transgender male (who has) a lot of homicidal thoughts.”

“These thoughts never seem to stop, you may believe that I am some edgelord, but in reality, I am just a loser,” Shockley reportedly said in an entry dated Dec. 16, 2024. “I am grateful for my chance to live but in reality, I am scared of living. Is it the government you ask? No. It is this sad reality of living with piece(s) of s—-… I hope whoever reads this takes acknowledgment and maybe use it for your massacre. :)”

In other entries from January, Shockley wrote about wanting to hurt others and said people need to be “killed” and “wiped away from humanity.” Shockley also expressed love for Cruz, comparing him to a popular indie pop artist.

In an interview police conducted with Shockley on Wednesday, Shockley reportedly told police that Shockley was “interested in mass (murderers) and the mindset of them.” Shockley also claimed to relate to Cruz’s motive due to the recent death of a family member.

However, Shockley told police that it was a joke and that Shockley would “never” shoot up a school.

“(Shockley) stated that (Shockley) wanted to recreate (what) Cruz did, but (Shockley) would never do anything like that,” the documents said. “It was said out of rage. (Shockley) is trying to get help with it. (Shockley) wanted to be in home school because of how bad the thoughts got…”

When talking with police, Shockley spoke of planning to go outside at lunchtime and fire a gun at individuals. Shockley told police that it was planned for Valentine’s Day and had planned to use an AR-15, stressing that Shockley “would have trouble holding one.” These plans were reportedly written in Shockley’s phone and notebooks.

“(Shockley’s) motivation for making the plan is Cruz,” the documents said. “(Shockley) has an emotional attachment to Cruz. (Shockley’s) message behind the plan is that (Shockley) does not like people who think they are better than everyone else and people should value their everyday life. You never know and could die at any minute.”

Shockley spoke about being bullied and teased after being nearly killed by a drunk driver a few years ago, court documents detail.

According to the documents, Shockley claimed to relate to Cruz and had “the same mental problems” even though Shockley was not reportedly diagnosed with a lot of it.

Officials from Mooresville High School told police that Shockley had sought mental health resources from the school multiple times after Shockley expressed suicidal ideation. Her mental problems were known to the school and stretched back several years.

“Each time (Shockley) would try to receive mental health assistance, (Shockley’s) father… would deny… access to the resources,” the documents allege. “It was (a school official’s) understanding that (Shockley’s father) did not believe in mental health treatment and did not take (Shockley’s) conditions seriously.”

Reactions from community

In an interview with FOX59/CBS4, Kerry Buckner, the chief of the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department, said this was “very disturbing,” stating the pictures in Shockley’s room of mass murderers “looked like family photographs.”

“This is a small town. A lot of us have, I mean, I have family who goes there. A lot of my guys have kids who go to Mooresville High School,” Buckner said. “And to think, you know, nothing ever happens in Mooresville, it’s a small town, but to think that someone was plotting to hurt a lot of individuals, kids, future leaders of this country, or whoever, is disturbing.”
