Andre Myers was arrested for the fatal hit-and-run of 13-year-old Genesis Webber. Myers has a lengthy traffic and criminal history spanning back decades.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New details are emerging about the man accused of hitting and killing 13-year-old Genesis Webber and then leaving the scene.

Police arrested 54-year-old Andre Myers just one day after the deadly crash on Arlington Road.

Our First Coast News team has been digging into his past and uncovered information that raises serious questions about why he was ever behind the wheel in the first place.

“He went on his way thinking he got away with it, but you can run, but you can’t hide,” said Ken Jefferson, First Coast News crime and safety expert.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Myers was found asleep in his truck late Wednesday night, wearing a GPS monitor and out on bond from a crime back in June.

An arrest report from June 1 of 2025 shows Myers was charged with aggravated assault for trying to run over a man with his car at a car wash on Lem Turner Road.

The report said he chased the man around the parking lot, threatened to kill him then drove his car at him.

According to court records, Myers also has a lengthy rap sheet that spans back nearly three decades, including battery, speeding violations and at least six charges of driving with suspended license.

Despite his long traffic history, JSO says Myers was out of jail and driving again.

Jefferson said this should have never happened.

“Two things came to my mind when I saw that is that he has anger issues and he’s a habitual traffic offender who should never, ever be allowed to sit in a vehicle and drive, whatsoever,” Jefferson said.

“That’s all on the judicial system. The officers did their job when they pulled him over and realized that he has a suspended license,” he said. “Once they make the arrest and put him in the system.”

Webber’s family now left grieving a young life cut short and a community asking how someone with this history could be behind the wheel.

“The only thing that I can think of how to address that is to put him behind bars for a long time,” Jefferson said.

First Coast News reached out to Genesis’s mother, Shardae Webber, when the arrest was announced. She sent us a statement saying: “I would like to say thank you to JSO for doing everything to make sure that this guy was caught. I can have closure knowing that he can’t be able to do it to anyone else.”

Andre Myers is still behind bars in the Duval County Jail.

His next court date is Oct. 23.
