Crayola building cubes recalled over magnet ingestion risk

CreateOn has issued a recall for approximately 9,400 Crayola-branded magnetic building cubes due to a significant risk of injury or fatality if swallowed. This recall follows concerns that the magnets within the pip-Cubes may detach when the seams split, posing a severe ingestion hazard, as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The danger arises from the potential for the high-powered magnets to be ingested. Once inside the body, these magnets can attract each other or latch onto other metallic objects, leading to potentially life-threatening internal complications.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that ingested magnets can cause severe injuries by perforating, twisting, or obstructing the intestines. These conditions could result in blood poisoning and even death.

The recall involves both the Bold Colors and Glitter variants of these magnetic building sets, available in packs of 24 or 27 pieces. The Bold Colors set includes cubes in red, green, blue, and yellow, while the Glitter set features cubes in purple, pink, blue, and green with a glitter finish. Each cube is marked with the “Crayola” logo on its left side.

The recall affects both Bold Colors and Glitter versions of the magnetic building cubes, sold in sets of 24 or 27 pieces. Bold Colors sets include red, green, blue and yellow cubes, while Glitter sets feature purple, pink, blue and green cubes with glitter coating. Each cube has “Crayola” imprinted on its left side.

The 24-piece sets sold for about $20 at Michaels stores nationwide and on Michaels.com. The 27-piece sets retailed for approximately $35 on Amazon.com. All sets were sold between May and July 2025.

No injuries have been reported.

CreateOn, based in Wheeling, Illinois, is offering replacement sets to customers. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cubes and keep them away from children. To receive a replacement, customers can contact CreateOn, which will provide a prepaid shipping label to return the recalled products.

The recalled products were manufactured in China. Model and UPC numbers are printed on the bottom of the product packaging.

For more information, consumers can contact CreateOn or visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website for recall details under recall number 26-128.
