Brown University was ‘soft target’ for shooter who remains at large, criminal profiler says

In Providence, Rhode Island, Brown University has been described as a “soft target” by a criminal profiler following a tragic shooting incident on campus. The criticism highlights the university’s unsecured entrances, limited surveillance, and the fact that the shooter is still at large as of Monday.

The attack occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday when an unidentified gunman stormed a lecture hall, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to nine others, according to law enforcement officials.

John Kelly, a criminal profiler and president of STALK Inc., commented on the situation, stating, “The campus was an easy target due to its open doors and lack of security. The shooter likely had knowledge of the area, was possibly angry at the university or its engineering program, and was well-prepared and at ease with using a semiautomatic weapon.”

Authorities have noted that the Barus and Holley building, the site of the shooting, had minimal security cameras, which has complicated the investigation.

The FBI released surveillance video showing a person of interest wearing dark clothes at an intersection to the northeast of the crime scene. He remained at large Monday afternoon, after police questioned but released someone else in connection with the incident.

“They don’t know if he’s 500 miles away or five doors down the street,” Kelly told Fox News Digital. “What they do know is he’s a psycho killer and mass shooter. If they don’t get him, there is a lot of fear for people living there, and there will be a lot of scared kids returning to campus.”

Police and federal agents were seen canvassing a wider area, including the neighborhood surrounding the Terrence Murray Baseball Stadium about five blocks to the northeast.

Forensic investigators wearing Tyvek suits were seen combing through a dumpster outside the Barus and Holley building.
