Daily Mail Crime Desk Brings True Crime Weekend to Savannah

Ever wanted to step into the role of a crime scene investigator, examine evidence, follow the clues and help unravel a real unsolved cold case?

Or go behind the scenes of some of America’s most notorious true crime cases, hearing directly from leading experts in forensics, interrogation and law enforcement about their careers—and the investigations they still think about years later?

Perhaps you’d rather meet the celebrated authors whose mystery and thriller novels draw readers into richly imagined worlds of danger and intrigue.

This fall, you can do all three. Hamptons Whodunit, the popular mystery and true crime festival, is taking its acclaimed event on the road for the first time.

Its destination is Savannah, Georgia—a city where ghost stories, scandal, murder and centuries-old legends are woven into the fabric of its distinctive Southern charm.

From November 6 to 8, leading true crime experts and bestselling mystery and thriller writers will gather in Georgia for a special weekend of panel discussions, expert talks, hands-on workshops, book signings and historic Savannah tours.

After the success of our collaboration at this year’s Hamptons Whodunit in the spring, the Daily Mail is pleased to return as an official media partner for the three-day festival.

The Crime Desk team, led by US Crime Desk Editor Rachel Sharp and senior reporter Steve Helling, will host a panel examining our coverage of some of the year’s biggest crime stories. The discussion will include our reporting from the trial of Lindsay Clancy, as well as exclusive scoops on family annihilator Chris Watts.

The festival will also feature former New York City death investigator Barbara Butcher, who will provide a frank, behind-the-scenes look at the demanding world of death investigation.

Georgia defense attorney McCracken Poston Jr. will discuss his work on the mysterious death of Virginia Ridley. Retired FBI agent Scott Duffey, meanwhile, will explain how the bureau obtains confessions from notorious criminals.

Guests can join crime scene investigator Sheryl McCollum for one of her popular Wine & Crime evenings. Forensic artist Joe Mullins will also demonstrate how he reconstructs faces—and helps identify John and Jane Does—using nothing more than a human skull.

Because Hamptons Whodunit is designed as an intimate, boutique festival, attendees will have plenty of chances to meet the experts and authors during three days of happy hours, workshops, trivia events and themed dinners.

The Alida Savannah, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will host the festival, with selected events taking place at Hotel Orielle, an Autograph Collection Hotel. Both properties are participating in partnership with Marriott Hotels, adding a generous dose of Southern hospitality to the weekend.

Visitors can explore Savannah’s historic streets on guided tours while discovering the ghosts, legends and true crimes that have helped make the city one of America’s most mysterious destinations.
