Dancing with the Stars: Emotional Dedication Night Ends in Shock

LOS ANGELES — “Dancing with the Stars” turned emotional in Week 6 with its annual fan-favorite Dedication Night, giving contestants the chance to honor the people and places that shaped their lives.

The heartfelt performances made for an especially emotional episode, with more than a few moments guaranteed to require tissues as the celebrities shared deeply personal tributes.

Former professional dancer and two-time Mirrorball Trophy winner Kym Johnson joined Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli at the judges’ table for the evening.

One familiar face was absent from the ballroom. Pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy was suspended for a week after making “an inappropriate remark” on social media following Week 5’s Super Bowl Night. Although Chmerkovskiy later apologized, Alan Bersten stepped in to dance with Jenna Dewan for the episode.

Here is how the couples ranked, from the night’s highest score to its lowest:

Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov: Contemporary to “Breathe Me” by Sia, dedicated to Amber’s sister, Brooke.
The performance left Kym Johnson stunned by its vulnerability, athleticism and unfiltered emotion. Bruno Tonioli described it as an “emotional tour de force” and called it brilliant, while Carrie Ann Inaba praised the pair for using the dance to deliver an important message. Derek Hough said Amber and Pasha did more than perform the choreography—they made the audience feel something powerful.
Scores: 10, 9, 10, 9 — 38 out of 40
