BRUNSWICK, Ga. — It was a celebration fit for a champion.
Hundreds of fans filled the streets of Brunswick Saturday all to cheer on Super Bowl champion Darius Slay Jr.
The crowds were part of a special hometown victory parade held for the six-time Pro Bowl cornerback, who was born and raised in Brunswick.

“It means a lot,” Slay told First Coast News. “Coming from a small city, my family and everything, my city supporting me, it’s a great feeling.”
Slay graduated from Brunswick High School in 2009 and helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the 59th Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“It settled in probably a week later, as in like, ‘dang I really won the Super Bowl,'” Slay recalled. “It took me 12 years to do it, so that’s how hard it is.”

The parade started at Howard Coffin Park and ended at Brunswick City Hall where Mayor Cosby Johnson gifted Slay with a key to the city and a proclamation.

“One of my dreams come true,” Slay said. “A small kid from Brunswick getting a key to the city.”
Slay said he was grateful for the experience and glad he could be an inspiration for the younger generation.
“That’s always been my goal ever since I’ve, you know, been a young kid,” he said. “I was just always trying to influence the younger ones, just trying to make sure they can find a path.”
Now, Slay is enjoying the offseason with his wife and kids.
“It was a great ride, great journey,” Slay said. “It’s good to be a Super Bowl champ.”
