Dashcam Captures Small Plane Crash on San Jose Highway; 3 Hurt

Dashcam video captured the tense moment a Cessna 177 slammed into an overpass above Capitol Expressway in San Jose, California, on Saturday.

The footage shows the single-engine aircraft veering into the arched overpass as it came down over the roadway.

Three people aboard the plane—including a child—were injured, the San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) said in a post on X.

The injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the department.

“SJFD is on scene of a plane crash in the area of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Dr.,” the department said in its Saturday post on X.

The post described the aircraft as a “small prop plane” and said no vehicles were involved. Two adults and one child were taken for medical treatment with non-life-threatening injuries “out of an abundance of caution.” Officials urged the public to avoid the area.

Fire officials also reported a minor fuel spill, which was absorbed at the scene.

The SJFD, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating what caused the crash. No possible cause had been released publicly, Fox2 KTVU reported.

A San Jose Police Department spokesperson told KTVU that drugs and alcohol were not believed to have contributed to the incident.
