Dave Coulier has recently shared insights into the health struggles that have led to noticeable changes in his physical appearance and voice, drawing attention from fans.
The former Full House actor took to Instagram on Thursday to address comments from followers who observed that he seemed slimmer and sounded unlike they remembered.
“Hello everyone, it’s Dave here. I haven’t been very active on social media lately, and during my last update, some of you pointed out that I look and sound different — and you’re right,” Coulier revealed. “What you’re noticing are the effects of extensive radiation treatment I underwent for throat carcinoma.”
He elaborated on the significant impact the treatment has had on his health. Due to his inability to consume solid foods for several months, Coulier has shed 45 pounds. Additionally, the radiation treatments have altered his speech.
“I’ve been unable to eat solid food for quite some time, which has resulted in a 45-pound weight loss — that’s what you’re seeing,” he explained. “The treatment has also affected my voice, which is why I sound different. Your observations are spot on.”
Fortunately, Coulier also had some encouraging news to share.
After undergoing recent PET scans, he said “the prognosis looks good for both the carcinoma in my throat and the lymphoma, so we’re very pleased with all of that.”
Coulier first revealed in November 2024 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A month later, he disclosed that doctors had also diagnosed him with p16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue. The second diagnosis came roughly a year after he completed treatment for lymphoma.
Back in February, Coulier appeared on Good Morning America and announced that he was in remission after undergoing surgery for tongue cancer, along with additional treatment related to his lymphoma.
“It’s been a roller coaster ride for sure,” he said at the time. “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.”
It’s a sobering update from the beloved sitcom star, but Coulier’s latest message offers the kind of hopeful ending fans were undoubtedly hoping to hear.
