During a recent concert, Dave Matthews, the renowned frontman of the Dave Matthews Band, did not hold back his feelings as he strongly criticized agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), labeling them as “a–holes.”
“I find it baffling that we allow people to justify reasons why we should continue to harm one another,” Matthews passionately expressed. “There seems to be a constant narrative encouraging us to inflict violence, a message that even our children absorb and perpetuate as they grow. It makes me wonder about the state of humanity, questioning why we have lost our moral compass. Perhaps, we’ve always been this way, only now we are more skilled at creating tools for destruction.” His remarks, emotional and raw, were captured and spread widely through a viral video clip from the show.
Matthews continued by addressing a tragic recent incident, making sure to speak the victim’s name he had carefully noted. “I feel it’s important to talk about this individual—a father and grandfather who was senselessly shot by ICE in Houston, Texas. They claim he wasn’t even the individual they were seeking. Inexcusable. If you’re uncertain, don’t pull the trigger, you a–holes.”
Matthews offered an apology to the family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, whose life was abruptly ended. “I apologize if my words offend his family, friends, or community. However, the injustice fills me with anger, and I wanted to dedicate this to the memory of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was killed recently in Houston by ICE.” The heartfelt tribute underscored Matthews’ evident frustration and his desire for accountability.
Illegal immigrant Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen, was shot and killed in Houston after he allegedly tried to ram US ICE officers during an operation, the agency said Tuesday. ICE officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop at around 6:50 a.m., an ICE spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
Araujo tried evading the ICE officers when he “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.”
Matthews has condemned ICE agents before. After the killing of activist Renee Good in Minneapolis amid an altercation with ICE agents in February, he spoke out in a video on his Instagram.
“I don’t want my taxes to pay for ICE, to masked thugs to roam our streets and terrorize our communities and rip families apart. We should be taking care of each other. We should be minding each other. We should be housing the homeless. We shouldn’t be, you know, throwing people to the ground,” he said.
“Which brings me to Renee Nicole Good,” he continued. “Murdered in front of her fellow citizens in Minneapolis, murdered in the streets, and no matter what narrative this administration is trying to sell us, we can see the videos.”
