Dave Portnoy goes scorched earth after losing bet on wild Yankees comeback

Anthony Volpe was safe — and Dave Portnoy was out of patience.

The Barstool Sports founder went on a social media tirade when a bet on the Mariners to beat the Yankees took a brutal turn on Thursday night.

Portnoy revealed that he placed a bet on the Mariners for the night. The team was in the lead by 5-0 and the pitcher was able to keep the opposing team from getting any hits until the bottom of the 8th inning. Portnoy expressed his frustration as the game headed into extra innings, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the league.

After Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo pitched a no-hitter through seven innings, the Yankees battled back to 5-3 — thanks to a pinch-hit Giancarlo Stanton home run — going into the bottom of the ninth.

With Mariners closer Andres Munoz seemingly tipping his pitches in the ninth, the Yankees were able to battle back and tie the game going into the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run single by Austin Wells.

Aaron Judge then stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth and hit a shallow fly ball to center field that was caught by Julio Rodriguez, who attempted to throw out the tagging-up Volpe.

The throw was nearly perfect, but Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh missed the tag, and Volpe was safe to seal a wild 6-5 comeback win in the Bronx.

“Worst f–king tag in the history of baseball,” Portnoy posted on X after the play. “I will not sleep tonight.”

Sleeping on it did not help Portnoy’s mood.

“Can’t believe the Mariners blew that game last night,” he wrote on X on Friday morning.

Portnoy has been known to bet big in his gambling career, consistently wagering five figures at the minimum and even wagering $1 million on the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl last season.

Portnoy, a die-hard Red Sox fan, didn’t share his wager amount on this one, but his reaction was as strong as any that we’ve seen this year.
