David Faustino, known for his role as Christina Applegate’s sibling on the iconic sitcom “Married… With Children,” recently shared insights into Applegate’s enduring humor amidst her battle with multiple sclerosis.
In a candid discussion with US Weekly, Faustino described Applegate’s MS diagnosis as “a real blow” but was quick to highlight her resilience, saying, “It’s been very hard for her, but she does keep her humor.”
Applegate, aged 54, has maintained her trademark wit despite her health struggles, according to Faustino, 52. He reminisced about her “dry, sarcastic sense of humor,” which has remained unchanged since they first met.
The actress, celebrated for her role in “Dead to Me,” continues to exhibit her “extremely sarcastic” and “extremely dry” humor, proving that her spirited nature is intact even in adversity.
Faustino emphasized that humor is Applegate’s way of coping, saying, “She gets through this with some humor, and that’s kind of her way that she moves through it.” He also mentioned his ongoing support for her since she publicly shared her diagnosis in June 2021.
Faustino also confirmed he’s in regular contact with the Emmy Award winner.
“I do a lot of visits with her. A lot of texting, a lot of checking in,” he said. “A lot of funny just crap that we talk about. And that’s all I can do, right? Give her my love.”
He added, “We do have deep convos when we sit. But we also keep the laughter [going] as well.”
Applegate and Faustino played siblings Kelly and Bud Bundy, respectively, in “Married… With Children.”
The sitcom, which aired on Fox from 1987 to 1997, also starred Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal as their parents, Al and Peggy Bundy.
Applegate gave an update on her health in April after she was hospitalized in Los Angeles.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough,” the “You With the Sad Eyes” author added.
Applegate’s rep wouldn’t confirm if the actress was hospitalized due to her autoimmune disease.
“I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” the rep told Page Six in a statement on April 16. “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”
In February, Applegate revealed she’s been confined to her bed due to ongoing pain, but she still tries to take her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school.
“I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,” the “Friends” star explained.
“I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’ And that’s what I do,’” she added.
