AUSTIN (KXAN) — A series of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids were conducted in Austin on Sunday, according to sources from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
A spokesperson for the DEA’s Houston Division said the DEA assisted ICE in the Austin area with immigration enforcement efforts.
“The raids are underway or have been done,” said Sally Sparks, a DEA Houston Division spokesperson, in a phone call with KXAN.
In an X post, the Houston DEA Division confirmed the DEA is working with Department of Justice partners, the Department of Homeland Security, and other federal law enforcement partners with these efforts.
ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Officers (ERO’s) focus on the identification, arrests, detention, and removal of individuals unlawfully present in the US, according to ICE. ICE said in an article on enforcement and removal operations, EROs work with statutory law enforcement authorities and use targeted, intelligence-driven tactics during enforcement.
According to a chart from ICE on Enforcement and Removal Operation Statistics, as of 2024, there have been 25,951 removals by area of responsibility in the San Antonio area alone.
KXAN is working to get the most recent information and will update this article with those details.
