Police shot and killed a death metal pioneer in San Francisco this week after an argument with a neighbor over tree clippings turned violent.

Brian Montana, 60, guitarist for the band Possessed, passed away in a tragic altercation with law enforcement officers. The South San Francisco Police Department reported that the incident occurred when Montana brandished a gun during a dispute with a neighbor, leading to a confrontation that turned fatal, as stated in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Amid the gunfire exchange, one neighbor sustained injuries that were fortunately not life-threatening. Authorities revealed that during the exchange, Montana sought refuge behind parked vehicles and landscaping while using three different firearms in a nearly 30-minute shootout with the officers, as cited by CBS Bay Area.

The South San Francisco Police Department provided additional details, stating, “[Montana] fired multiple times at officers using a handgun, shotgun, and rifle. Officers utilized patrol cars as shields and reciprocated fire. The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at the scene.”

The argument began over tree clippings from a neighbor’s yard, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
