Delta Jet’s Anti-Collision Alarms Triggered During Atlanta Airport Close Call

A tense moment unfolded at Atlanta’s bustling Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when alarms inside the cockpits of two Delta Air Lines planes went off. These aircraft came alarmingly close to each other mid-air, resulting in a nerve-racking near collision that’s now being scrutinized by federal authorities.

The anxiety-inducing episode occurred late Monday night around 11 p.m., as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in a statement to News Media.

The FAA detailed the incident, stating that Delta Air Lines Flight 2472 was in the process of taking off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when it passed directly in front of another Delta aircraft, Flight 1568. The latter was circling back after the pilot decided on a go-around due to a slower aircraft that lingered on the runway.

Cockpit anti-collision alerts erupted, capturing one pilot’s astonished reaction of “My goodness,” a phrase that was noted in the air traffic control recordings acquired by CBS News.

Delta told News Media in a statement that the maneuver was in accordance with established procedures and that its crew undergoes extensive training for these types of uncommon scenarios.

“As safety remains at the core of everything we do, the crew of Delta Flight 1568 performed a go-around during approach into Atlanta due to potential traffic on the runway,” Delta said. “During the go-around, the crew maneuvered in accordance with established procedures to maintain separation from other air traffic.”

The airline said that the flight landed safely and passengers deplaned normally.

The FAA said the incident is under investigation. Delta said it will fully cooperate with authorities on any review.
