Chris Stirewalt has identified California Governor Gavin Newsom and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as standout figures from election night.
During a special election night broadcast on Tuesday, the anchor of “The Hill on Sunday” remarked that the string of victories for the Democratic Party could pave the way for a potential 2028 face-off between two prominent party members.
Stirewalt commented, “Zohran Mamdani is about to make an appearance. While he wasn’t created by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he certainly represents and extends the movement she was a pioneer of.”
He further noted, “We are witnessing two distinct visions for the Democratic Party: one spearheaded by Gavin Newsom in California and the other by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York. This marks the start of a potential 2028 contest between them, highlighting the impending intense debate within the Democratic Party about its future direction.”
