Renowned for his portrayal of Lamont Sanford on NBC’s classic sitcom “Sanford and Son,” the esteemed 71-year-old actor Demond Wilson has passed away at the age of 79.

His family confirmed the heartbreaking news to various media outlets. Demond Wilson Jr., his son, informed TMZ that his father’s death resulted from cancer complications. TMZ was the first to report this news.

“I loved him. He was a great man,” his son expressed to the media outlet.

Further details were shared by Christopher Wilson, who confirmed to the New York Times that the actor had been battling prostate cancer. Demond Wilson died peacefully on Friday at his residence near the Coachella Valley in California.

The actor, whose name was Grady Demond Wilson, was born in Valdosta, Georgia. He studied dance as a child, and made his acting debut in Norman Lear’s “All in the Family.”

The 71-year-old actor was best known for his role as Lamont Sanford in the NBC sitcom. He starred alongside Redd Foxx, who played his father on the show.

“Sanford and Son” ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1977. Following “Sanford and Son,” Wilson starred in two other series: “Baby… I’m Back!” and “The New Odd Couple.” 

His last acting credit was in 2023, where he appeared in the show “Eleanor’s Bench,” according to his IMDB.
