DENVER (KDVR) Denver police said that officers impounded three dirt bike riders’ vehicles and cited the trio for multiple traffic violations on Saturday, June 7.

It’s the latest citations announced in the department’s crackdown on off-road vehicles being used on city streets, often impacting traffic as the riders ignore traffic signals and create hazards for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The Denver Police Department said that on June 7, officers were patrolling the area of Colfax Avenue and Broadway Street when they saw the trio of riders, which the department described as driving recklessly.

“The riders were seen running red lights, performing stunts, switching seats, and causing general mayhem,” the department said on Facebook.

The officers kept an eye on the riders until they parked in the area of South Broadway and Bayoud Street, which is on the edge of the Baker and Speer neighborhoods. The officers contacted the riders there and issued each citations for reckless driving, speed exhibition and other traffic violations.

The officers also impounded the bikes.

“Off-road motorcycles and ATVs are not meant to be driven on city streets and those caught will be cited,” the agency said on Facebook.

The department is encouraging anyone who sees reckless or dangerous driving, or an off-road vehicle illegally being operated on roadways, to call 720-913-2000 or 911 if it’s an emergency.
