DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver man has been indicted on multiple charges after he was accused of pointing a machine gun at a driver, demanding they get out of the car and taking off with their vehicle, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.

On Wednesday, the USAO said that a grand jury returned the indictment for 18-year-old Dhal Buk, who faces federal charges for alleged crimes including carjacking, using a machine gun during and in relation to a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a machine gun.

The charges stem from an alleged armed carjacking that happened in the Montbello neighborhood early on June 25, 2025.

Buk was among a group of people who approached a man sitting in his car that day, according to a press release referencing the criminal complaint. Buk allegedly pointed a gun at the driver and told him to get out of his car. The man complied, and the group got in the car, and Buk drove away.

After driving off, the stolen vehicle crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot, and the people inside abandoned the vehicle and ran away on foot.

That same morning, law enforcement responded to a nearby park after a ShotSpotter alerted them to six rounds of fully automatic gunfire. A juvenile accomplice was detained, and Buk was chased down on foot and arrested.

At the scene, officers found a modified Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun that had an extended magazine and multiple live rounds.

“Investigators confirmed the Glock handgun had been altered to fire automatically and was capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in the release.

FBI Denver said its Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force worked with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Department of Corrections to apprehend the suspect.

The FBI’s task force is leading the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Dunn is handling the prosecution.
