Senior prank at Malibu High School leaves trail of destruction

A group of graduating troublemakers at a California high school caused extensive damage during a “senior prank”, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars of costs. Their actions included using superglue to seal classroom doors and pushing a golf cart down stairs.

About 40 current and former students went on the “unacceptable” rampage at Malibu High School overnight into Tuesday – and could soon face prosecution, school district leaders wrote.

“This behavior is completely unacceptable and negatively impacts the entire Malibu community,” Santa Monica Malibu Unified Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton said in a statement.

The pack of pupils superglued locks to 20 classrooms that made them inaccessible for a day, ripped down exterior clocks, spray painted “explicit messages and inappropriate images” on walls, and broke tables and seats, Shelton said.

They also pushed a golf cart down a flight of stairs with an image showing the vehicle on its side.

“I just think that it’s really disrespectful,” student Irina Columbeanu told CBS Los Angeles.

“Especially by throwing around food when people don’t even have it to eat and you just waste it to destroy the campus. It’s just disrespectful and entitled and privileged.”

The school chief said in his letter to the school community that officials are working with local authorities to track down the culprits so they can “be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The discipline could also include restitution for the estimated tens of thousands in damages and the loss of senior privileges.

“Unfortunately, senior vandalism has occurred for more than 15 years at MHS,” Shelton said. “This is not a rite of passage. This is a crime that has consequences for all involved. It will not be tolerated.”

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station told Fox 11 it was a “senior prank gone awry” and is under probe.

Student Semira Bell agreed that the prank went too far.

“It’s not even funny anymore,” the senior told CBS.
