St. Augustine’s Catholic museum is unveiling its inaugural “Nativities from Around the Globe” exhibition, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural interpretations of the birth of Jesus.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — In perfect harmony with the holiday season, a unique display has been set up at a Catholic museum in St. Augustine, inviting visitors to explore a diverse array of nativity art.

The Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine have curated over 100 pieces, including sculptures and various artworks, which capture the nativity scene through different cultural lenses, gathered over many years.

“It’s a wonderful way to embrace the festive spirit and a beautiful tribute to the celebration of Jesus’ birth,” expressed Korrine McGill, curator at the Father Miguel O’Reilly House Museum.

This marks the museum’s first presentation of the “Nativities from Around the Globe” exhibit, offering an engaging exploration of artistic interpretations of Jesus’ birth from diverse cultures worldwide.

The artwork comes from Europe, Africa, Latin America, and more.

“I think people are going to appreciate how many there are. Even if you came back for a second or third time, you’ll probably notice something that maybe you didn’t the last time.”

We also spoke with the congregation’s general superior — Sister Kathleen Carr. She says this exhibit shines as a special light this holiday season.

“It really struck us that we wanted to share the message of Jesus, who we believe is the light of our nights,” Carr told First Coast News.

The nativity exhibit will run throughout the Nights of Lights season at the Father Miguel O’Reilly House Museum downtown.
