DNC launches weeklong voter-registration push: ‘All hands on deck’

() The Democratic National Committee is launching a weeklong effort, beginning Monday, to register voters across the U.S. as the party tries to rebound this November and then in the 2026 midterm elections, has learned.

Party leaders have planned at least 50 events across 26 states, with voter drives occurring in more than 35 congressional districts.

Democrats say they’re taking their game to farmers markets, stadiums, and at least 30 college campuses in both blue and red states.

“We’re building the infrastructure to win everywhere,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said.

It’s the first time in years the national Democratic organization has directly supported voter registration events around National Voter Registration Day. It comes as the DNC has fallen behind the Republican Party in registering voters. The New York Times recently reported the GOP registered 4.5 million more voters than Democrats between the 2020 and 2024 elections, within the 30 states that keep voter registration records by political party.

“We’ve outperformed or won in 42 out of 43 key elections this year, and, coming out of our organizing summer campaign, the next step is to ensure these victories bring us closer to long-term Democratic majorities. That’s the core work of the DNC and exactly why we’re all hands on deck this week,” DNC spokesperson Abhi Rahman said.

The DNC says they are focused on races up and down the ballot, but gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia are considered high priorities. In July, the DNC announced it had plans to make initial investments of $1.5 million to support the Democrats in each state.

DNC officials said some of the events this week will have increased security following last week’s assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah and a bomb scare at the DNC’s Washington, D.C., headquarters.

The Democratic Party has minorities in the House and Senate.
