BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — President Donald Trump announced Monday night he agreed to deliver a commencement address at the University of Alabama. UA confirmed the news Tuesday afternoon.

Trump in a Truth Social post stated that he will also speak at the U.S. Military Academy. He noted times and dates for those speeches will be revealed later.

“It truly will be a historic occasion for these UA graduates and their families. What an incredible opportunity to hear from the President of the United States! Thank you, @POTUS, for making this happen for our students,” Gov. Kay Ivey wrote in a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday morning.

The University of Alabama released a statement Tuesday stating that Trump will be attendance on Thursday, May 1. It will be a ticketed event held in the evening at Coleman Coliseum, and will be open to all spring 2025 graduates.

UA released the following statement:

“The University of Alabama is honored to have been selected as one of the universities President Donald J. Trump will visit to deliver a spring commencement address. This ticketed event will be held the evening of Thursday, May 1, at Coleman Coliseum and will be open to all spring 2025 graduates. All spring graduates will have the opportunity to attend this distinct event in addition to their college-specific ceremonies where degrees will be conferred from May 2 to 4, as scheduled. Campus logistics and security measures are being carefully coordinated, and ticketing information for graduates and other event details will be communicated in the coming days. We look forward to celebrating our graduates throughout commencement weekend as we confer degrees to thousands of hardworking students who will go on to make a positive impact in the workforce and in communities across Alabama, our nation and the world.”

UA will hold commencement ceremonies at Coleman Coliseum from May 2-4. Trump was last in Tuscaloosa when he watched the Alabama Crimson Tide face Georgia at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sept. 28 while he was the Republican candidate for president.
