Fans of holiday classics can look forward to watching “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on television twice this season.

WASHINGTON — After a long hiatus, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is making its return to NBC’s holiday lineup.

Last year marked the first time in 50 years that this cherished animated special graced NBC’s screens since its original premiere on the network back in 1964.

This year, viewers can catch the iconic Rankin-Bass claymation production on Friday, December 5th, at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

For those who may miss the initial broadcast, there will be another opportunity to enjoy the festive tale later in the month.

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” originally debuted on NBC on Dec. 6, 1964, before spending five decades on CBS. NBC brought the special back to the network in 2024.

The holiday favorite follows a reindeer named Rudolph as he’s excluded from the Reindeer Games because of his shiny red nose, prompting him to embark on an adventure where he meets Hermey the elf, Yukon Cornelius and the Misfit Toys, all while hiding from the Abominable Snow Monster.

The network is also airing other animated holiday staples this season, including “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Frosty the Snowman.”

“These holiday events and specials bring audiences together in ways nothing else can,” Jen Neal, NBCUniversal Entertainment’s executive vice president of live events and specials said. “NBC is your home for heartwarming traditions, joyful celebrations, and unforgettable moments.”

When is “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on NBC

The beloved Rankin-Bass stop-motion special will air on NBC Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. ET.

An encore presentation will air on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. ET.
