In a dramatic incident at an Idaho air show, four crew members successfully ejected from their aircraft after two Navy jets collided on Sunday, according to event organizers.
The collision occurred during the Mountain Home Air Force Base show in western Idaho, prompting an immediate response from emergency teams.
Kim Sykes, the marketing director for Silver Wings of Idaho, which co-organized the event, confirmed that all crew members escaped unharmed. She noted that although she did not witness the crash itself, she observed smoke billowing afterward. The accident happened off the base grounds.
Following the mid-air collision at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show, the base initiated a lockdown, as stated in a social media update. Responders were present at the scene, and an investigation into the incident was launched.
Witnesses recounted seeing the two jets collide and descend, and videos circulating online captured the moment when four parachutes deployed as the aircraft descended near the base, located approximately 50 miles south of Boise.
No other information was immediately available, said a person who answered the phone at the 366th Fighter Wing public affairs office.
Organizers said the popular air show that includes flying demonstrations and parachute jumps is a celebration of aviation history and a look at modern military capabilities. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds headlined the show both days.
The National Weather Service reported good visibility and winds gusting up to 29 mph (47 kph) around the time of the crash.
